Strength To Obey & Obey All

Joshua 1:7 (KJV)

Only be thou strong and very courageous, that thou mayest observe to do according to all the law, which Moses my servant commanded thee: turn not from it to the right hand or to the left, that thou mayest prosper whithersoever thou goest.

The LORD instructed Joshua only to be strong and courageous because He knew that he needed strength and courage to be able to be obedient unto God. God knew that a shallow and fearful person would not successful obey the Lord, He knew that a shallow person could easily waver from the word of God to the right or to the left.

In the same way I must be spiritually strong in order to obey the Lord’s commandments. Strength means being deep. I must be deep in the word of God by meditating on it day and night. Meditating is more than just reading the word. It’s like soaking the word, tossing it around and round in my mind.

To meditate is to think deeply about something. Instead of worrying about life, I must be able to meditate on his word and his wonderful works.
When you lie down to sleep, instead of worrying, mediate. Instead of thinking about things that cannot be controlled, meditate on the word. Chew over the word and do microscopic bible study by turning things over in your head.”

– BDHM

I must be able to chew over the word of God. Through meditating on His word, I will become stronger in him. I can become deeper in God. The deeper I go in the word of God, the stronger and more courageous I am in the Lord.
The stronger I am, the more obedient I am to his word. The more obedient I am, the more I’ll be able to overcome in this life.

So I’ve learnt that I must really strengthen myself by meditating on His word, so that I would grow deeper in the Lord, I will be able to understand his law better and therefore I’ll be able to obey his word.  It’s one thing to obey, and it’s another to obey all.

Ruth 3:5-6 (KJV)

[5] And she said unto her, All that thou sayest unto me I will do. [6] And she went down unto the floor, and did according to all that her mother in law bade her.

Naomi, Ruth’s mother in law, had given Ruth some instructions. Ruth obeyed and did according to all that her mother in law bade her. She did all, not some, not almost all, but all. She did everything that she was told to do. Fully.
That’s what it means to follow fully. She did all that she was asked to do. 100%, not 98.7%.

I have been learning that to follow hard or to follow fully requires obedience, humility and communication. I must keep in touch so that I may be able to take instructions and obey them. This all takes humility to do. It takes humility to obey most times. It is a stubborn and proud person who doesn’t want to obey, he thinks his ways and his thoughts are right so he does not need to listen to anybody. His mind cannot be changed. I must not adopt this spirit.

I must humble myself and follow fully.

Applying it to my personal life at home, I must be able to listen to my parents and obey all that they say. Even when it’s hard. I must pray and ask God to soften my heart that I will be able to obey.

All this can be made easy if I only just set my affections on things above. If I understand and look at life from God’s perspective I will be able to obey all. I must remember that this life is a very small part of my existence; I have the whole of eternity to live. And if how I live now determines my position in eternity, I must live a life of purity and obedience.

Lord please help me to live a life of purity and obedience.

Colossians 3:1-4 (KJV)

[1] If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. [2] Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. [3] For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God. [4] When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory.

I must seek first the kingdom of God. Though Jesus loves me and cares a lot about me, it’s not about me. It’s about Him. I must always remember that. I really should meditate on his word. I really should set my affection on God and his kingdom.

“The more you allow yourself to come under the influence of the word of God, the more you become tuned toward heaven. You are affected”

– BDHM: Kruptos Man

Let’s Pray: Heavenly Father thank you so much for your word. Thank you that you have shown us a key to obedience. Please have mercy on us and show us how to be obedient to your word and to obey all. Please strengthen us in the inner man that we may be able to listen to your voice and not turn away from your word to the right or to the left. May you give us strength to obey authority. Lord, please help us to set our minds on you, your word and your kingdom. May we fix our eyes on you. In Jesus’ mighty name. Amen.

  1. Wow Kays, this is really deep. I would like you to read the books of Romans and Galatians so you get a deeper understanding about the Law of Moses which was given to the Jews. Pay particular attention to Galatians 3 and Romans 8, which clarify what the use of the law was and if it is still applicable to Christians. Also after Jesus died, rose again and resurrected, us Christians are now supposed to be at rest, where righteousness is no longer about performance but faith in Jesus Eph. 2:8. We did not have to work to get our salvation, but God freely gave it to us. Is also means that all we need to do is rest in the finished work of the cross…remember Jesus finished it all for us, so if we try to add anything to it we are demeaning the work that Jesus did for us on the cross… He paid it all for us, in fact, He overpaid our debt and we do not need to work to pay anything anymore. We only need to believe in what Jesus did on the cross, live knowing that we’ve been justified into the beloved and live a guilt-free life. I hope you’ve been reading the daily devotions I’ve been sending you…you will get more enlightened: we all are:)
    Blessings
