Prepare ye the way

Matthew 3:1-3 (KJV)

[1] In those days came John the Baptist, preaching in the wilderness of Judea,[2] And saying, Repent ye: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.[3] For this is he that was spoken of by the prophet Esaias, saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.

Repent – feel or express sincere regret or remorse about one’s wrongdoing or sin.

Repentance is a radical change in someone’s life which involves forsaking sin and turning/returning to God.

Change – an act or process where one becomes different

Greek: ‘metanoia’ which means a change of mind, repentance.

Through repentance, there must be a change in mind of the person who has repented. You begin to be different in the way you think. When you repent from something, you stop doing that thing which you’ve repented from; because to repent means to become different from the sin you used to do. Sin is a choice: for you to sin, there’s a thought process; you sin as a result to your attitude, so when you repent you then have a change in mind so to say, so that you wouldn’t commit that same sin again. Repentance.

In order for you to live in accordance to that repentance, your mind must be transformed. If you know that watching certain things will cause you to sin, stop watching that and replace that gap with the word of God.

Romans 12:2 (KJV)

And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind…

If your mind isn’t being constantly renewed (that verse says “renewING” meaning it’s a continuous action) then your mind is subject to the law of degeneration. Before you know it, that repentance comes to nothing, and you’re going back to that same sin. Therefore we must constantly be renewing our minds by reading the bible.
“To degenerate means to gradually become of a lower type. It is a gradual falling off to a lower form of development.”

Excerpt From: Dag Heward-Mills. “Transform Your Pastoral Ministry.”
Why repentance? Repentance prepares the way for the Lord!

“Repentance prepares the way and makes the road of our hearts straight. Repentance builds up every low place and takes down every high place in our lives and church families. Repentance prepares us for His presence. Repentance permits pursuit of His presence. It builds the road for you to get to God (or for God to get to you!).”

Excerpt From: Tommy Tenney. “The God Chasers”.
If we say we are hungry for God, or even yet, say we are Christians, we want God to invade our hearts and encounter Him in new ways; we must repent. We must render our hearts to Him. As we repent, the blood of Jesus washes us, and makes us clean so that God can enter in. It prepares us for Him!

1 John 1:7 (KJV)

But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin

Psalm 24:3-4 (KJV)

[3] Who shall ascend into the hill of the LORD? or who shall stand in his holy place?[4] He that hath clean hands, and a pure heart; who hath not lifted up his soul unto vanity, nor sworn deceitfully.

Hallelujah! I’ve learnt that when we repent and surrender our lives to God, it prepares the way for His divine presence to enter in.

Let’s Pray: Heavenly Father, I thank you so much for this time, I pray and ask that you help us to render our hearts to you. Help us to truly repent before you so that your presence may descend upon us. Thank You Lord! In Jesus’ Name.  Amen!
