Read: Acts 1:1-16
The Holy Spirit
Acts 1:8 (KJV) But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.
When the Holy Spirit falls upon us, power will be received by us also. Where the Holy Ghost is, there is power. But it is only by the Spirit of God that we are able to witness to other people. Jesus told them to WAIT until the Spirit of God came
Acts 1:4 (KJV) And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but WAIT for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me.
Jesus knew the importance of the Holy Spirit, he knew that as he is going back to the father, the Spirit of the Father must now be deposited in their lives in order to continue to work that Jesus did.
Acts 10:38 (NIV) how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and power, and how he went around doing good and healing all who were under the power of the devil, because God was with him.
Even Jesus himself; the son of God, had to be anointed with the Holy Spirit in order to carry out the will of God.
Psalm 27:14 (NIV) Wait for the LORD; be strong and take heart and wait for the LORD.
From this, I can see how patience is very important. Suppose the apostles didn’t wait for the Holy Spirit? They wouldn’t have been able to go around and do good like Jesus did.
When it was time to choose another disciple to replace Judas, they had to choose a loyal person, someone who has been committed and faithful from the beginning. Don’t expect promotions in the church if you’re not loyal or committed. Just like you won’t expect promotions in a job if you know that you’re not committed to the job.
Acts 1:21 (KJV) Wherefore of these men which have companied with us all the time that the Lord Jesus went in and out among us,
Somebody who has always been around ! Faithfulness.
“What does it mean to be faithful
1.To be loyal
2.To be constant
3.To be the same
4.To be dependable
5.To be Reliable (can we count on you)
6.You are consistent
7.To be Trustworthy”
BRA: Loyalty and Disloyalty
Acts 1:24 (KJV) And they PRAYED, and said, Thou, Lord, which knowest the hearts of all men, shew whether of these two thou hast chosen,
This showed me the importance of prayer before making decisions. We all make decisions, and we all need help from God. Because we know that God is all knowing and all powerful, so why wouldn’t we ask him to show us the way to go? Some of us didn’t even consider God when choosing what uni to go to. Forgive. But by the grace of God we are here today!!
Even Jesus prayed the whole night before he chose his 12 apostles.
Luke 6:12-13 (NIV) One of those days Jesus went out to a mountainside to pray, and spent the night praying to God. When morning came, he called his disciples to him and chose twelve of them, whom he also designated apostles:
May we be able to wait for God! May we be loyal to the church, faithful to the church, and committed to the church. And finally, may we not forget God when we make decisions.
